You are right. Perfume is a health hazard in a bottle. Most modern perfumes are made from synthetic chemicals that are derived from benzene a toxin and known cancer causing agent.

Studies have shown that synthetic musks, that are in almost all perfumes, aftershaves and cosmetics, accumulate in body tissues can cause breast cancer cells to grow. They can also worsen the effects of exposure to other chemicals.

Studies on animals have shown that perfumes can be toxic to lungs, kidneys and liver, and can cause birth defects.

In the past perfumes were made from natural organic plant extracts so it’s probably safer to make your own from natural essential oils although some people are even sensitive to those.

It helps to reduce your exposure to all chemicals in personal care products and your home.
