The liver cancer is also known as the primary liver cancer and is the rare form of cancer (1% of all cancer) in the western world as compared to the Asian & African parts of the world where it is a common form (10 to 50% of all cancer). It is mainly diagnosed in the males and it is the type of disease which is rapidly fatal.

Types of cancer: The basic tumors of liver cancer are known with the name of hepatomas. The primary liver cancer that originates in the bile duct (produces bile juice used during the digestion of food) is known as cholangiomas. Rare type of liver cancers includes hepatoblastomas & Kupffer cell sarcoma which are exclusively in the children and are curable. Other form of cancer is the metastatic which is called so because it originates in other body part and get spread to the liver. It is 20 times more common than the primary cancer and the leading form of liver cancer due to which death occurs after cirrhosis.

Liver Cancer Symptoms: Liver cancer does not show any symptom in the early stages and it becomes prominent only when the cancer has advanced to the next stages. These can be

A lump of mass in upper right side

Weight loss, fever, weakness (basically signs of cancer in early stage but as these are usual one doesn’t guarantees cancer)

Yellowing of skin

Causes: the exact cause of disease in adult is very difficult to tell. It can be because of inhalation of carcinogens, which can be there in variety of ways in the present environment. The most common way is smoking either active or passive. It may be because of the weak immune system or because of hepatitis B virus. In case o children the cause is mainly the genetic problem.

Diagnosis: In presence of cirrhosis it is difficult. But image study like ultrasound or MRI with certain test can help. The liver biopsy will surely do the job along with electrolyte study which indicates the increased sodium.

Treatment: it depends on the type of cancer, age, health of person, personal preferences, etc. There are ways like surgery and drug based treatment. In surgery the tumor part is removed or the other form of surgery is liver transplant but it is for younger people with large size tumor. In drug base alcohol injection are given in tumor which dries up the cancerous cell which then eventually dies.

Cancer in the liver is the life threatening disease that can be devastating for the person. The person suffering from the disease should get the medical treatment as soon as possible. Symptoms of the liver cancer are the usual one like loss of appetite, loss of weight, weakness which makes it difficult to diagnose in the early stages. The other symptoms which are clear indication of the problem are pain in the abdomen, yellowing of the skin but these are only there when the liver cancer stage has advanced to another level. Medical care is must for the person in case of liver cancer.

Primary liver cancer cases in the US are the cases of the metastatic cancer rather than the liver cancer. Actually the liver cancer is there because it has been spread to liver through the other body part where the cancer originally originated. In this case the treatment is done of the body part where the cancer originated and in case this is not possible then efforts are made to maintain patient’s life through medical assistance and pain management.

Depending on the stage of the liver cancer in the patient different treatments can be adopted to solve the problem. These are surgery, radiofrequency ablation, radiation therapy, alcohol injection and liver transplant. In case of surgery the area which is infected by cancer is completely removed except in the surgical resection which is a different thing. This is for the people who are suffering from the cirrhosis of the liver. This treatment does not guarantee the eradication of cancer. It may appear in the other part of liver or in other areas in the time period of few years. Liver transplant is also another type of surgical treatment but is for the people in the early stages but the tumor size is large.

Other treatments mentioned above come under the category of drug- based treatment. In this type of treatment the cancer cells are killed using the different procedures. In alcohol injection, pure alcohol is injected in tumor which dries out the cancer cell and they eventually get killed. His is known to increase the liver cancer survival rate. In case of chemotherapy the anti-cancer drugs are introduces in the body either directly into the liver or systematically. Chemotherapy basically shrinks the size of tumor which can be treated more easily through other treatments afterwards.

Liver is the largest internal organ of the human body. The hepatoma is the primary liver cancer type of liver. The liver is the vital organ that performs many several functions like processing and storage of nutrients absorbed from the intestine and also the production of the clotting factors that helps in clotting of blood in case of injury or cut along with the blood platelets. Hemangioma is one of the common types of tumors of liver. It starts in the blood vessels, whereas Hepatic adenomas start in liver cells. Women are at higher risk of such tumor if they are on birth controlling pills. Discontinuing them may help to reduce the tumor size. Hepatic tumor begins in many sites in the liver and is not confined as a single large tumor. It is in different numbers where it starts as a spot inside the liver.

Hepatic tumor or liver cancer can be on or inside the liver. There are many types of cancer but the primary type is the malignant. Hepatocellular carcinoma comes under this category. Growth of these can be benign or malignant. This can be discovered by medical imaging even if it is not done specifically for the diagnosis of liver cancer.

Most of the time the liver is not the origin of the cancer but it get spread to liver from the other body parts. These tumors are then named after the place where they originate in body and furthermore called as metastatic. Liver cancer symptoms of this kind can b the lump in the abdomen or yellowing of skin but you may not seen them until the cancer is advanced to other stage.

Some researchers have a notion that the cancer every cancer starts with the damage of the DNA. DNA is basically a body library which has all the things related to the chemical processes going on in our body. Even the rate of cellular growth is included. The damage in the DNA causes the cells to grow abnormally and they grow out of control forming the masses which are eventually termed as tumors. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is the primary cause of the liver cancer in humans. It relates to the frequency of the virus. Studies on animals also prove the fact. Injecting the virus in mice causes him to develop the liver cancer, although the mice seldom develop liver cancer.
