Swine flu has created panic all over the world. The death toll due to this disease is increasing by each passing day. Starting from Mexico, it is spreading like a pandemic in the whole world. Swine flu virus, which earlier used to infect the pigs only, is now affecting the humans as well. Everyone is worried that it may not affect us but we are forgetting one very important thing. Rather than being worried, we should take precautionary measures to prevent the virus from infecting us.

Swine flu can infect a person if he comes in contact with a person infected by the virus. The H1N1 virus is transmitted through air. Thus, if someone inhales air infected with the virus, he will suffer from swine flu. These days we should avoid crowded places like cinema halls, shopping malls so as to prevent the virus from entering our body. Maintenance of personal hygiene is also required. We should wash hands thoroughly, when we come home from outside.
Cover the mouth while sneezing or coughing to avoid spread of virus in the air and wash hands after that. If required, cover the face with masks to ensure safe escape from the disease. Develop a good body resistance by eating balanced diet containing adequate amount of fruits and vegetables.

The symptoms of the disease are acute fever, nausea, fatigue, constipation and dehydration. If some one is suffering from flu and has symptoms somewhat similar to that of swine flu, he should immediately consult an experienced doctor. Self medication should not be employed as it can be harmful. Swine flu can be cured if detected early and proper medication is done. There are two anti- viral drugs for it- Tamiflu and Relenza. These can fight off the H1N1 virus within a week and you will be fit enough to go back home. Taking medicine on your own, considering it a normal viral infection may cause the anti- viral drugs ineffective against the H1N1 virus. So, the best way to avoid any all the problems associated with the Swine flu is to be careful about yourself and your surroundings.
