Anyone who has passed teenage or whose children have been through this age will tell you that it is no walk in the park. It is one of the most difficult times of a child’s life. It
is during this time that children begin to find their place in the society. They taste independence for the first time. They begin to feel the sometimes onerous but extremely pleasing freedom. However, with all the benefits, come responsibilities and pressures related to teenage. Dealing with all this becomes all the more difficult along with the various hormonal and physical changes that their body undergoes.
Health for teens is an issue on which a lot of light needs to be shed. Between ages 12-20, children go through innumerable changes both bodily and mentally. Health for teens being such an important issue should be taken up as a subject in schools. Understanding their body becomes quite a herculean task for teenagers. With hormones having a massive impact on almost everything a teenager goes through, it becomes even more vexing to realize their body.
Health for teens may be mental health or physical health. Physical health for teens relates more to bodily changes. Teenagers often experience bodily changes which become difficult to handle. Bulking up or obesity is one such problem seen more and more in teens nowadays. Obesity comes from eating unhealthy and sometimes even from parents. Such teens loose confidence and often retort to diet plans which are not only impractical but also insalubrious. In order to remain slim teenagers develop bulimia and anorexia which eventually leads to malnutrition.
Physical health for teens becomes all the more important to take care of if your child does not exercise a lot, gets tired very easily, has asthma, frequent stomach aches and asks for medication too often.
Mental health for teens can be more arduous than physical health for teens. Mental health for teens has various problems linked to it the most prominent one being depression. Depression has various symptoms like anxiety, insomnia, improper diet, sudden pangs of anger, worthlessness, low self esteem, violence, recklessness, irritability, mood swings, intolerance to criticism, tearfulness, lack of enthusiasm, etc. Treating depression can be quite tricky but necessary. If left untreated, depression can even lead to physical harm to teens in the form of drug abuse, alcoholism, addiction to smoking, homicide and even suicide. The one point solution to all problems related to health for teens is good communication.
