Winter Skin – Not So High, But Surely Dry
Come winters and you realize that your ever so glowing skin is radiant no more. One can’t help but notice that the winters bring with them little more than just warm
clothes, bonfires and snuggling up in a warm quilt. They bring dry and unsightly skin. Certain simple pointers can help fight the flaking and cracking dry skin of the winter season:
1. Moisturizers
A good oil based moisturizer is your best bet to banish that dry winter skin. The frigid weather absorbs all the moisture of the skin. The essential body oils vanish with the winter season as well. Hence it becomes all the more important to use artificial means of keeping your skin moist. It is also essential to use an oil based winter ointment only and not a water based one because oil forms a protective layer over the skin to shield it from the harsh weather by retaining natural body oils and moisture.
2. Water Intake
As mentioned above, your skin looses most of its moisture during the winters. Hence it becomes all the more important for one to drink ample amount of water. Around twelve to fourteen glasses of water a day can be called a sufficient amount.
3. Eating Habits
The intake of fruits should be redoubled for the same reason that water should be consumed. Fruits replenish and balance the moisture lost from your skin and are a rich source of various vitamins (like vitamin E) which are profitable not only for the skin but also other parts of the body.
4. Humidifier
A humidifier is a household device that replenishes or augments the moisture in a room. A good humidifier if used regularly does not allow for the skin to crack. It can be used in homes as well as cars.
5. Avoid Hot Water
Bathing with inordinately hot water should be averted no matter how much one is tempted to do so in the chilling winters. Doing so diminishes the already minified moisture content of the skin. Use warm water instead. The time spent in the shower should also be minimized. Adding a little baking soda or oatmeal to your bathing water is a good means of combating itchiness of the dry skin.
6. Natural Products
Using natural products to moisten your skin is far better means of winter skin care than cold creams or other synthetic moisturizers. Aloe Vera, coconut oil, olive oil and sunflower oil are some natural moisturizers that provide protection against dry skin.
